I have gone to the Vietnam War Memorial quite a few times, it is always incredibly moving. By sure accident, I got to see a procedure called "Status Change" at the Wall. Every soldier KIA has a Diamond next to their name. Every soldier MIA, has a cross. When the remains of a soldier are found and presumably DNA tested for verification, the Cross is changed to a Diamond. This procedure was treated almost like a funeral ceremony, very dignified and respectful. Glad I got to see this rare event.
